UDS Group of Hotels organized beach cleaning campaign on the World Oceans Week (WOW) in association with the Indian Coast Guard, Vizhinjam, Fire Force, Coastal Police, and Thiruvananthapuram Corporation led by Ward Councilor on Sunday June 11th near the Kovalam Lighthouse, harbor road.
Uday Samudra Group & SKAL International Club conducted the Ocean Love Seminar on the occasion of World Ocean Day at Uday Samudra Beach Hotel, Kovalam, which was attended by College Students, Schools, Hoteliers, Travel & Tourism professionals, Government and Non-Government organizations, etc.
The technical sessions were presented by Dr. Krishna Sukumaran, Dr. Surya, Dr. Manju Lekshmi, scientists from, Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute and Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, Dr Biju from University of Kerala, Dr.Smitha and Anagh from the environmental conservation group, the topics discussed at the seminar were on the Ocean as a Source of Food, Blue Economy and Sustainable Development, Waste to Wealth, Conservation and Management of Ocean Resources, Marine Pollution and Solution and Marine Littering and Youth Intervention for a Sustainable.
The inaugural speech was delivered by Raja Gopal Iyer President SKAL International Club Trivandrum.
The seminar also showcased the management of kitchen and garden waste by converting them into odourless organic manure made using black soldier files.

On the occasion of World Environment Day UDS Group of Hotels and SKAL International Club Trivandrum organized Green Run from Kowdiar Palace gate to Rakthasakshi Mandapam on 5th June, the participants were from Pangode Military Camp, Akkulam Air Force, UDS Hotels officials and staff, SKAL Trivandrum, hoteliers, travel and tourism representatives.
The flag-off was done by Brigadier Lalit Sharma, SC, SM, Station Commander Thiruvananthapuram Military Station, Raja Gopaal Iyer, CEO UDS Group of Hotels handed over the sapling to the Station Commander, Thiruvananthapuram Military Station before the flag-off, the closing ceremony was held at Rakthasakshi Mandapam Palayam, Eco-friendly Pens, and saplings were distributed to the participants.

It was a formal conference, but not one of their routine black-suit affairs. To start with, the five CEOs sat around a table underwater, communicating through hand signals and placards. And they were there for a cause - a campaign to stop underwater pollution.

To protect the ocean and to create awareness among the community regarding Marine Pollution,
Ocean Love “Beach and Marine Environment Protection Council” (BMEPC) were launched and as part of “World Oceans Day” on 8th June 2017 at 10:00 am, the Hotels, Resorts, Educational institutions, NGOs, Travel & tourism associations & Social Clubs from Kanyakumari to Kasaragod conducted the beach cleaning in their respective areas.
The aim of forming a council is to “Protect the Ocean & Marine life” The objective of this council is to educate the citizen and the staff members of hotels, resorts, restaurants, and other organizations located on the beach to initiate and educate the waste disposable which should be carefully placed in the appropriate place so that it doesn’t end up fouling our oceans, rivers, and lakes. We cannot take our marine environment for granted, nor treat it carelessly.
5 tons of debris washed up to the shore at Kovalam Beach on the first week of June 2019. Ocean Love stepped up inviting all the hotel associations, hotels, local tourism promoters, and NGOs at Kovalam to support and move the debris. It was, after many follow-ups and meetings with the authorities, Ocean Love decided to take things into its own hands.
Work continued through a whole day and night as final bits and pieces of the trash were carried off in trucks. The trash, which was primarily comprised of clothes and nets, was quite heavy, and an earth mover was called in to lift the materials onto the trucks. The trash was been completely moved and transported to a landfill site in Trivandrum with the permission of the Kerala Government.
Uday Samudra Initiates Ocean Conference under the banner "OCEAN LOVE" (Beach & Marine Environment Council)
June 8th is celebrated as World Oceans Day around the world and Kovalam Uday Samudra hosts a seminar campaign standing against ocean pollution and pollutants by joining hands with coastal side hotel authorities, anti-pollution organizations, and the locals. The event was inaugurated by State Fishery & Ports principal secretary K.R Jyothilal.
The conference was attended by Travel & Tourism sectors, entrepreneurs, Government Organizations, NGOs, College & School Students, defense forces & Media personnel.
The speakers did a presentation and explained their views on global Marine pollution and the threat that has been faced by the Marines species, 2270 Marine species are endangered or threatened with extinction.
Prestigious personalities named L.P. Chither (Clean Mission Director), S.Rajasekharan Nair (U.D.S. Chairman) were also part of the event which covered various topics about ocean cleanliness; Mr.Siju Kumar (Dean of Kerala University), Shibu K.Nair (Director of Thanal), V.K. Varghese (Indian Coast Guard)and Dr. Clement Lopez (Centre for development).
Ocean Love; which fights against ocean pollution and pollutants, organized an event spreading awareness of how important our oceans are and how we can save them from the present crisis. Inaugurated by the President of Kerala Travel Mart, Mr. Baby Mathew, the event focused on various marine-related topics such as marine pollution, marine future, and statistics of marine pollution and the after effects of Global warming and climate change.
Students from various educational institutions such as Sai Krishna Public School, Christ Nagar, University of Kerala, and S.M.V. school participated in the event and were given chances to express their ideas, and opinions and even clear their doubts. Following the event had various eye-opening seminars from Mr. Satish Babu, Dr. Biju Kumar, and Dr. Katherine Owen.
Marine Pollution has become a very serious matter nowadays, affecting even human growth drastically. The steep decrease in ocean treasures and extinction of marine living things is purely because of land pollutants, and we have to recognize these harmful factors to fix them with the right solutions.
